It was interesting to hear perspectives that were different, yet very similar. Diversity is so many different things and is so strongly tied to the culture of a company. I really enjoyed how company culture continued to be discussed in different ways throughout the evening.
As a learning professional, one main responsibility is to build and support the culture of the company. In Angela's case, her training that will help unite global offices will have a strong effect on the way the company functions and communicates. It is a struggle to maintain similar cultures and performance in different areas of the world and I think that it was interesting to hear what she is doing in that area.
Culture was also on the top of my mind while listening to Donna discuss thought diversity. I realized how limiting a culture can be when it is not sensative to the many differences of it's employees. For example, today at work we were discussing performance reviews - how they are done and the conversations that managers need to have with their employees. I was able to bring up what I had learned last night about learning differences and make people aware of the different ways that people will process feedback and be able to understand expectations. There may be different ways that the manager needs to communicate with the employee in order to meet the expectations of the company.
Also, culture came up when Rob discussed the trends of outsourcing and off-shoring. The question is - how do you maintain the integrity, culture and expectations of your company when your parts of your business is handled by another country or another area of the world. Training plays a big part in helping others understand the expectations and learn how to perform in order to support the needs of the parent company.
Overall, I found the discussion to be very interesting and it provided me with a new lens with which to look at these issues

I really enjoyed hearing Rob's explanation of global deployment/trends, Angela's clear description of the technological implications for ID, and Donna's unique perspective on cognitive diversity. Imagine if we could put them together to work on a learning project team! Could such a capable and effective team alleviate the need for evaluation?
